Hamburg University hosting Europe's biggest education congress

Delegates from 79 nations expected at European Conference on Educational Research (ECER)

Around 3,000 delegates from 79 countries are expected at the European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) from September 3-9, 2019 to discuss education in an era of risk hosted by the University of Hamburg. The conference is Europe’s largest on education and comes as the University of Hamburg celebrates its centenary.

Promoting a global higher education system

“The development of a global, higher education system must not be left to chance,” said Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Dieter Lenzen, President of the University of Hamburg, and stressed the importance of such a system amid new challenges e.g. dwindling social cohesion. Delegates will have an opportunity to discuss the issue and to link up with each other at lectures, presentations and workshops. Six keynote speakers, including Lenzen, will give addresses.

“Going Green”

In keeping with this year’s motto of “Going Green”, delegates will receive reusable coffee cups and a ticket for HVV public transport. Plastic packaging and disposable dishes will be kept to a minimum. Delegates will have a choice of vegan food and fresh fruit from Hamburg’s Altes Land region.
