University Heart Centre becomes University Heart and Vascular Centre

New building with 388 beds, nine operating theatres planned in Hamburg

The UKE’s Heart Centre is to be renamed University Heart and Vascular Centre to reflect the close co-operation between cardiology, pediatric cardiology, cardiac and vascular surgery to treat 10,000 inpatients and 16,500 outpatients in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region every year. The centre also gets a new logo, according to a press release on Wednesday (May 15, 2015).

New building

Patients will also benefit from the centre’s range of medical services and the synergy effects between departments there. Plans are also being laid for a new building with 388 beds, nine operating theatres and nine cardiac catheter laboratories. The hospital aims to meet the constantly growing demand for the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
