Music Worx Pitch 2019

Hamburg to honour most innovative start-ups in music industry - winner scoops EUR 5,000

Five tart-ups in the Danish, Swedish, French and German music industries are competing for Hamburg’s sponsorship prize at the Music Worx Pitch on November 12, 2019. The pitch in Hall 424 in HafenCity’s Oberhafenquartier marks the close of this year’s Music Worx Accelerator. The programme takes place against the backdrop of technological progress and big data, blockchain, AI, digital platforms and social media, which are driving the music industry to constantly reinvent itself.

Start-ups from all over Europe

This year’s contestants are the Hamburg-based Tunecity (Hamburg), GigsGuide based in Malmö, Street Artists based in Paris, Berlin’s Ununu and Copenhagen’s Warm start-up. The teams have spent the last three months taking part in workshops, were coached by experts and enjoyed free working space at WeWork Labs and received financial support as well. The founders of Tunecity, for instance, are working on an app that uses augmented reality (AR) to turn the city into a music experience. Georgia Taglietti, Head of Communication at Barcelona’s Sonár Festival, and board member of the global network SheSaidSo, will open the events with a keynote on the future of the music industry. What developments can be observed and what opportunities are opening up? Then, each team will pitch their business models to win over the audience and jury of experts, who will choose a winner.

Sofa Concerts and Tinnitracks among success stories

The Ministry of Culture and Media launched the Music Worx programme in 2011 to boost innovative business models in the music industry. The programme was expanded in 2014 in co-operation with Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft to include the Music Worx Accelerator. The Music Worx Accelerator has already produced successful companies like Sofa Concerts, Tinitracks, Groovecat and NOYS. Sofa Concerts took part in VOX TV’s “The Lion’s Den” show for founders earlier this year. Another participant Sonormed won the SXSW Accelerator Pitch at the legendary digital and creative festival South by Southwest in Austin in 2015 with its Tinnitracks app.
